Fairy Rings appear in early Spring or Summer as circular or oval-shaped rings of dark green, growing faster than the surrounding grass. The grass in the ring may die during dry periods. Fairy rings continue to live and enlarge by decomposing organic matter in the soil and thatch. Nitrogen is released as the organic matter is decomposed by the fungus, which accounts for the dark green areas. Dead areas occur when fungal growth forms a mat and moisture becomes unavailable to the grass roots. Click links below to READ MORE
