Lawn Care - Soil Preparation |
|
Careful soil preparation is crucial for establishing a beautiful and healthy lawn. If you prepare the soil bed properly you will increase the chance that the grass roots will be able to penetrate evenly and deeper in the soil. A denser lawn is resistant to disease and insects and is stronger against weeds. Following these steps will ensure a healthy lawn.
1. Remove stones, rocks, cement, bricks and other debris that are larger than 3 inches.
2. Till the soil about 2 inches before placing top soil to control weeds. This will help improve water movement, drainage and enhance penetration of roots.
3. Conduct a pH test on the soil to make sure the chemicals are balanced.
4. Use a starter fertilizer that is high in phosphates at the recommended proportions. Never work it deeper than 5 inches into the soil because it could cause damage to the grass roots. Click links below to READ MORE |
